Care and Disposal of the Washington State Flag

The Washington State flag should be folded and stored properly to preserve it from damage. The flag should not be folded in the same manner as the U.S. flag, but in a normal square pattern so it may fit in a box.

When the condition of the Washington State flag is such that it is no longer fit for display, it should be disposed of in the same manner as the U.S. flag, preferably by burning, and with the same dignity as is accorded the disposal of the U.S. flag.

Many American Legion Posts conduct Disposal of Unserviceable Flag Ceremonies on June 14, Flag Day. This ceremony creates a particularly dignified and solemn occasion for the retirement of unserviceable flags. To find an American Legion Post near you: http://www.walegion.org
