Fred Shiosaki of Spokane was a member of the storied 442nd Regimental Combat Team, one of the most decorated units in U.S. Army history. The all-volunteer team of Japanese American soldiers received 21 Medals of Honor and nearly 10,000 Purple Hearts during savage combat with Hitler’s most battle-hardened troops.
